Neighborhood Guide: Hacking Woodland Hills

Part of what makes Los Angeles so special is not just the city of LA itself, but all the other amazing areas and neighborhoods nearby that we can explore and visit.

One of these local gems is a neighborhood bordering the Santa Monica Mountains and in the San Fernando Valley region of LA County called Woodland Hills.

Woodland Hills is one of the most popular places to live because its safe, clean, and has a nice urban and suburban mix to it. But for those of us who don’t live there its also worth visiting or spending a day there because of the great list of both indoor and outdoor things to do.

In this article, we share the best hacks for hanging out in Woodland Hills.

 


1 – Topanga State Park

Description:

Topanga State Park is a magnificent area found above in the cliffs and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains. It has always delighted outdoor enthusiasts with its beauty and its miles and miles of trails through open grassland, secluded hills, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

Topanga is known as an artist’s playground as many escape here for inspiration and relaxation.  It’s also a popular getaway for celebrities and Hollywood stars looking for a quick getaway from the pressures of LA LA Land.

Most all Topanga State Park is popular for those unbelievably great vistas of the Pacific Ocean, found during a hike.

The area has so many great trails you can’t pass up if you are an avid outdoors person and hiker.

2 – Westfield Topanga Village

Westfield Topanga Village

Description:

Come to Westfield Topanga Village for world-class shopping and more!  Yes, we know that LA has plenty of spectacular shopping centers and outdoor retail spots, but this place is unique because of its massive size and outdoor options.

Westfield Topanga Village has so many great restaurants, shops, spas, and nail salons you could lose yourself there all day.

It’s also an easy mall to take kids because they can have fun playing in the really cool designated kid’s play space.

3 – Skirball Cultural Center

Skirball Cultural Center

Description:

The Skirball Cultural Center is a Jewish heritage educational institution not far from Woodland Hills.  There you will find exhibitions, readings, classes, new and classic films, and family programs.

Since its opening to the public in 1996, the Skirball has become known as one of the world’s most dynamic Jewish cultural institutions and one of the many amazing cultural venues we are blessed with the opportunity to enjoy here in Los Angeles.

This extraordinary museum also features annual events such as summertime sunset concerts, family amphitheater performances, Spring Puppet Festival, and the Hanukkah Family Festival.

4 – Candy Cane Lane

Candy Cane Lane Woodland Hills

Description:

There are a few Candy Cane Lanes in Los Angeles but the one in Woodland Hills is arguably the best and most well known.

Every holiday season since 1952, eight large blocks of festive holiday lights are displayed on the local homes of this popular neighborhood to the delight of Woodland Hills residents and people who come in from other nearby cities to visit.

Add this spectacular dazzling display to your list of holiday season entertainment options.  You can invite your loved ones for a happy illuminated stroll around one of the greatest holiday neighborhoods in all of California and truly get in the spirit of the season.

5 – The Japanese Garden

The Japanese Garden

Description:

The Japanese Garden is more in Lake Balboa but super close to Woodland Hills. The beautiful garden displays waterfalls, lakes, and stone gardens which makes it very serene and inviting for meditation and relaxation.

Incredibly this Japanese garden is actually on the grounds of the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant. They wanted to demonstrate how reclaimed water could be used to make something beautiful and positive and it’s clear they accomplished that goal.

You can enjoy water lilies and lotus flowers bloom during the summertime.  It also displays serene and captivating bridges of different styles, a tea house, and a tea garden.

Besides the regular visitors who love the beauty of Japanese Gardens, it’s a popular venue as well for special events such as professional photography, weddings, and so forth.

General admission is only $5 and $3 for seniors and children.
