Well Los Angeles the year 2020 was definitely one of a kind and most of that is not meant in a good way but we hope that the new upcoming year of 2021 will be the beginning of a turnaround towards a much brighter path for the world and the city we love so dearly.
Much of 2020 was about loss and this past year we lost many of our favorite local places, businesses and people including celebrities.
There are way too many to note all of them but we wanted to share some of what 2020 took from us that really stood out.
Here is a list of some notable things we lost in 2020 that we are really going to miss.
1 – Cliff’s Edge LA
Description:
Covid-19 and all the lockdowns and business disruptions that came with it officially took Cliff’s Edge LA way back in March 2020. This beloved restaurant, which for more than 15 years delighted us with its gorgeous patio-garden, and offered flavors so fresh and delicious, had to close its doors early on in the pandemic.
Many of us loved coming here and enjoy a delicious dish surrounded by those lush gardens. Many popular local chefs had warm feelings for this spot as well and this special “only in LA” restaurant experience was well respected by its peers.
Unfortunately, the list of great restaurants that have closed their doors permanently is long and keeps getting bigger.
Among our favorite places that are no longer with us as of this writing are: Broken Spanish, The Bazaar by Jose Andres, 6th and La Brea, Caffe Vita (Silver Lake), Bistro Garden at Cold Water, and more and more are added each day.
We will surely miss these spots that were just as much about their vibes as they were their delicious dishes. Hopefully, some will find a way to start over and open again when life finally gets back to normal.

2 – Elysian Park Swing
Description:
Ok, this Instagrammer favorite spot disappearance cannot be blamed on the pandemic. The branch that held the secret swing was actually cut down in February before Covid reality set in LA in the month of March.
We are not even quite sure why the branch was cut down but assume it was the work of the city and had something to do with safety.
For those who had a chance to reach for the heavens while swinging in this popular spot, high five! Everyone else, sorry to say you but you missed it. But not all is lost there are some other secret swings popping up in places although it will be hard to replace this special one which was by far the most popular in the city.
Sad to say the Elysian Park secret swing is officially on the list of things we had to say goodbye to in 2020.
You can still (as of this writing) visit the La Jolla swing and some others.

3 – Skyspace LA
Description:
Goodbye to the famous skyscraper glass slide? Yes, unfortunately, it is true. The observation deck and glass slide 1,000 feet up outside of the US Bank Tower has closed its doors.
This terrific slide delighted us with its incredible views and was the most recognizable activity offered by SkySpace. But it was far from the only amazing thing that was there. Skyspace had an interactive museum dedicated to Los Angeles. There were also some open-air observation decks, murals a trendy bar, and much more.
SkySpace LA was one of those very unique entertainment experiences in Los Angeles.
If anything positive can be taken from this its that it shows us how we have to get out there and visit these special spots before it’s too late and they are taken from us.

4 – Landmarks
Description:
This bizarre year of 2020 will be remembered for all the things that were closed or canceled for the first time that any of us can remember. Pre pandemic it would be hard for anybody to imagine “the happiest place on earth” closing its doors to us for almost a year.
While Disneyland was the most notable theme park to pull the curtain down, it was the same case for the other theme parks like Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farms, and others.
This also included our beloved museums like the Griffith Observatory, movie theaters, and other large places that draw big crowds.
The good news is that for places like Disney they are closed temporarily and not forever. One day, hopefully in 2021 we will be able to once again experience the magic of these beloved landmarks.

5 – Notable People
Description:
Of course, the biggest cost of the pandemic around the world and here in Los Angeles has been the people we have lost. On a personal note, I have lost 2 people in my family in 2020 so it definitely hit close to home.
While many of us were affected by family tragedy all of us can relate to the loss with the deaths of so many well known people and celebrities. Every year of course well-known people pass on but 2020 seemed to have constant unwelcome news of notable people passing away.
We will continue to remember all those who left so many memorable moments in our lives and in our city. Those who brought thrill and joy into our living rooms when we watched one of their television shows, movies, or sports championships.
We won’t forget these beloved stars, and will always remember their tenacity and accomplishments.
So many people moved on in 2020 but we wanted to be sure to say goodbye to all our 2020 fallen stars who had special impact or strong ties to Los Angeles including:
Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, Sean Connery, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Naya Rivera, Dave Prowse, Alex Trebek, Eddie Van Helen.
