We don’t get many rainy days in LA but there are a few sprinkled in here and there between October and April. So what to do on a rainy day in a place most famous for almost constant sunshine?
Don’t worry we got you covered. In this post we have some awesome recommendations to make a rare rainy day in LA still a fun time for everyone.
Our beautiful city still knows how to spoil its residents even on a rainy day with plenty of options. So don’t let a little drizzle get in the way of an amazing hike, or a chance to to spoil yourself with a Spa treatment when its pouring.
No matter if its raining hard or just a bit gloomy, our list of rainy day activities will put a smile on your face. So take some notes so you can still go out and explore Los Angeles on that next rare rainy day!
1 – Heated Outdoor Dinning
Description:
Don’t let a little drizzle ruin your dinner plans. Its great to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather but LA and greater SoCal has some pretty cool covered patio restaurants with heated options, so you can still enjoy beautiful views even when it rains.
Our first recommendation for enjoying an outdoor dining experience without the sun is Spago Outdoor Pavillion, this luxurious restaurant is an extension of Spago in Beverly Hills. It’s completely enclosed which makes it perfect for those drizzling days and it’s heated for a more comfortable experience.
You can also find at this restaurant a delicious menu and a great ambience, perfect for special occasions. Make sure to check it out at night time when the purple light features make this gorgeous high end restaurant look even nicer.
Next on our list is The Green Room. The Green Room is a speakeasy with elevated cocktails inside the popular Castaway restaurant in Burbank. Located just 30 minutes from DTLA , it made our list because you are really getting a two for one.
The Castaway restaurant features a spectacular outside deck with firepits and amazing views. But if that is not enough to keep you warm you can steal away into the interior comforts of that hidden speakeasy The Green Room for some cocktails in comfort.
Plus if it is raining or a colder day in LA, it is likely that in Burbank, where this spot is located, it will be 5 to 10 degrees warmer.

2 – Experience the Waterfalls
Description:
Southern California has some amazing outdoors options and one of the most beautiful and popular are the waterfall hikes. People of all ages who love the outdoors, enjoy finding that treasure at the end of the great hike that is a pretty waterfall so they can take it all in and maybe even snap some pictures.
But it’s no secret that when it comes to actual volume of water our falls can be disappointing. With our warm and sunny climate, the waterfalls don’t display much water most of the year.
That is why if you want to see a good flow of water you should go at the right time and this is the perfect activity to do on light rainy days. If you go after a recent rain, that it is when you will actually see more water running down the fall. Just wear your waterproof hiking boots, light waterproof jacket and you are good to go.
There are plenty of waterfall hikes choose from, ranging from mild and kid friendly, to very challenging. One of our favorite kid friendly ones is Millard Falls in Altadena. For more challenging hikes some recommendations include Big Falls in San Bernardino, and also Santa Ynez Waterfall in Pacific Palisades.

3 – It’s Game Time
Description:
Rainy days are the perfect opportunity to play games with friends. Hit the bowling alley, visit a board game room, or even a new or old school video game arcade.
First in our list of recommendations is The Spare Room. This gaming parlor located in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is the perfect spot for an elevated bowling experience on a rainy day. Put on the bowling shoes and enjoy their amazing drinks and you won’t even remember its raining outside.
Want to step up your gaming? How about a circus arcade with a bar and story rooms right in the Arts District? Head to Two Bit Circus where you and your friends can play arcade classics such as Pinball, Street Fighter and more, step into other worlds with VR, play some unique interactive circus games and challenge each other in escape rooms.
More game bars suggestions on a rainy day? Visit Eighty-Two game room and bar, Lucky Strike Hollywood, or Game Häus Café in Glendale.

4 – Karaoke
Description:
In need of something fun to do on a rainy afternoon or early evening? This is your chance to go and check out one of the many amazing Karaoke bars we have.
Karaoke bars are great places to go when it rains! You can go show off your skills to strangers or even better get a private room for just your family and friends and belt out songs with out the fear of judgement.
One of our favorite recommendations include X-Lanes in Little Tokyo. This underrated spot has so many fun things to do including arcade games, bowling, darts, a great bar with a full drink menu and some tasty bites. And it also has several karaoke rooms of course! You can rent a smaller or larger private ones right near the bar and they have thousands of song selections!
Another great spot is The Venue, this spot has great ambiance and 13 beautifully designed and spacious karaoke private rooms, and what’s more, they can set it up directly to your phone so you can play any song you want.

5 – Spa Day
Description:
This amazing city we live in is known for all the exciting events and activities, but also knows how to pamper its residents. So take that rainy day to explore one of the many Spa options that offer luxurious, exclusive, and relaxing options for you. Because on a rainy day what can be better than a relaxing Spa treatment?
For a more high end experience we recommend Hotel Bel Air Spa, where you can expect a world class facial or massage. This beautiful spa offers its guests not only amazing treatments, but also a quiet and serene atmosphere.
For a more casual experience we recommend Riviera Health Spa in Torrance, which is a Korean Spa and it has hot and dry saunas and steam rooms. Prices here are very affordable and it also has a café, smoothie bar and Korean restaurant upstairs.
And of course if you love the Korean spa experience there are many great ones to choose from in K-Town like Crystal Spa, Wii Spa, or Century Day and Night Spa.
