The LAHackers 2019 LA Summer Bucket List

If you were born in Los Angeles or lived here a long time (10 years and counting for me) you have probably already done many of the “BIG” LA activities and visited our cities most famous landmarks.

But how long has it been? Many times we get caught up in the routine of our daily lives and tend to forget about these spectacular entertainment choices we are spoiled with.

Personally I have done most of the ‘famous’ LA bucket list things but some of them I only did only once or twice and kind of forgot about! Can you relate to that?

That is why this year I decided to make a Summer Bucket list. To write down some of my favorite LA classics and make sure I get out there and rediscover how incredible some of those activities and places are.

Here is our Summer 2019 Bucket list and we hope it motivates you to make your own and experience all over again some of those awesome things that make Los Angeles such an amazing place to live.

1 – Watch A Dodger Game

Dodger Game Fireworks

Description:

Nothing celebrates Summer better than taking in a Dodgers game and all season the stadium is filled with enthusiasm and sunshine.  This year 2019 is the Dodgers 62nd season in Los Angeles and they are doing really well once again during the regular season so far.

I have been to quite a few Dodger games but some years I tend to forget to go and a whole season goes by!

Its always fun to celebrate the hometown team with other fans and bring your family and friends to enjoy a famous Dodgers dog at the ‘All You Can Eat’ right field Pavillion.

A few tips to remember: children under 3 do not need a ticket but you have to hold them on your lap.

Small bags or purses are allowed as well as sealed plastic water bottles.  No coolers or thermoses.

If you want to make this Summer bucket list item extra special go during a Friday night home game.

After the game, they feature a free fireworks show where you can actually go down to the fied and watch them go off right above you.

Here is a full schedule of every Friday night Dodger Fireworks for 2019.

2 – Spend A Day in Malibu

Visit Malibu Pier

Description:

With so many different activities to choose from in Malibu, spending the day in this beautiful city is a treat you don’t want to pass on.  From surfing to shopping, this town has some thing for everyone.

I love, love Malibu so I want to make sure I make the choice to get up early and head out there at least 2-3 times a Summer.

Some of our favorite things in Malibu include sampling local wine. Malibu wine country is known to have a wide range of well known vineyards, we recommend you do a wine tasting while taking in those spectacular only in Malibu views.

Hiking in Malibu is also a very popular option since there are so many awesome trails and sites including The Grotto trail or the Solstice Canyon with its year-round waterfall.

Plan your day by hitting the trail early  morning and then rewarding yourself with a great meal at one of the many amazing Malibu food destinations.  We recommend lunch at the Pier at Malibu Farm which features healthy meals made with local ingredients.

We also like Aloha hour at Dukes which starts at 3:30 M-F and 2:30 on Saturdays.

The beaches of course are another great way to spend the day in Malibu, choose from relaxing on the sand, or going surfing or even scuba diving!

In addition to the beaches, museums are also an important feature in Malibu, and you can visit the Getty Villa or the Adamson House.

Or you can even just go shopping at the Malibu Country Mart for a simple but amazing day in Malibu.

We have recommed 2 amazing beaches in Malibu many times on this blog and here we are again! If you make a trip to Malibu try to go to el Matador for its beaty.

And if you want to spend all day at one beach go to Paradise Cove the only beach in all of Los Angeles County where you can BYOB.

3 – The LA County Fair

2019 LA County Fair

Description:

From August 30 until September 22, LA county fair welcomes locals, tourists and visitors.  The fair offers carnival-type rides, food, music and even animal shows.

This years end of the summer concerts features several well-known artists including Pitbull, The O’Jays & The Spinners, Kelsie Ballerini & Hunter Hayes, Juanes, George Lopez and many others.

The County Fair is always fun but its only a month so I want to add this to my Summer list and make sure I dont miss it!

On the patio of the art gallery, there will be food, DJs and bands playing.  The fair also comes with competitions including culinary demonstrations and contests, America Kids’ Adventures in Literature featuring fun competitions and hands on activities and even a DIY design studio where you get to turn a house into a home.

High School marching bands are also competing at the fair. Make sure you don’t miss out on any of this classic Summer fun!

If the dates for the LA County Fair are not convenient for you there is always the OC Fair. It is very similar of course but runs a bit earlier in the Summer.

The OC Fair starts on July 12th, 2019 and end August 12th 2019.

4 – Hike Runyon Canyon

Hike Runyon Canyon

Description:

Runyon Canyon has been featured in many of our post in LA Hacks, and that is because this popular trail has so much to offer to every visitor.

Unfortunately for me since I moved all the way to the South Bay I dont make it to Runyon very often anymore. That is why Im adding it to my list this year to make sure I get out there and enjoy it before Summer is over.

The 160 acre park in the heart of Los Angeles is not only a great spot to exercise but it also gives you some of the best views of the city. And it offers these epic views just minutes away from the urban chaos below where you parked your car.

Hit the trail, get in shape, enjoy the views.  Bring along someone and take memorable pictures of the city and you might even get a celebrity sighting or two!

5 – Day Trip To Catalina

day trip to Catalina Island

Description:

Catch the 6:00 am Catalina Express and start your day with a beautiful sunrise while heading towards Catalina Island.  You may even see some dolphins on the way.

When I first moved to LA I went to Catalina quite a few times but as time has gone on I’ve gone less frequently. I want to make sure I add it to my LA bucket list this year!

If cattchin the 6:00 AM express sounds way too early, you can also catch later boats of course.

Catalina Island has great choices of restaurants where you can find a verity of choices including Pancake Cottage in Avalon or Original Jacks County Kitchen and plenty others.

Fun and adventure awaits in this charming Island.   The Aerial adventure features a series of activities involving climbing, swinging trees and other obstacles made of fun rope ladders, log bridges etc.  You can also enjoy the zip lines if you are more daring.

Plenty of tours to choose from including the Catalina Island Food Tour or Happy Hour Tour where you can learn about the Island while enjoying some of the amazing flavors of local eateries.

There are also Jeep Echo Tours, Safari Island Adventures, Water Tours and more.

You can also just choose to chill at the beach and drink delicious cocktails!

A trip on the Catalina Express over the water and direct to Catalina is awesome. But what about when you want to take it next level? Like a birthday, anniversary or bucket list item? Well in that case take a helicopter over!

The ride will get you to Avalon in about 15 minutes and ranges between $135 – $150 each (one way).  You can find more info here -> IEX Helicopters
