With its many haunted houses, scary farms, and horror nights experiences, LA has something for all of you who like a good scare.  Yes the spooky season is finally here! 

We love how much adults get into Halloween in Los Angeles, so whether you’re into terrifying mazes, eerie ghost tours, or family-friendly pumpkin patches, Los Angeles has a wide range of activities for October fun. So, get ready to embrace the chills and thrills, as we guide you through the spookiest and most entertaining events happening this month in our town.

 


1 – Los Angeles Haunted Hayride

If you’re looking for a truly terrifying Halloween experience, look no further than the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride. This annual event has been scaring visitors for over two decades, and it’s only gotten better with each passing year. 

The Haunted Hayride is more than just a haunted house. It’s an immersive experience that takes you into the world of Midnight Falls.  Riders board a hay wagon and are taken on a thrilling journey through a haunted forest, where they encounter monsters, ghouls, and other spooky creatures. The hayride also features several special effects, such as fog machines, strobe lights, and sound effects, to create a truly immersive experience.

And the scare-actors are some of the best of any Los Angeles Halloween experience.  They’re not just there to scare you; they’re there to make you feel like you’re truly in danger.  So prepare for a good scream at this awesome “only in LA” Halloween experience.

2 – Shaqtoberfest at the Haunted Queen Mary

Description:

Shaqtoberfest is an immersive Halloween festival featuring haunted trails, live entertainment, themed bars and lounges, carnival rides, and more. It is held at the notoriously haunted Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.

The festival was founded by NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in 2022 and is now in its second year. Shaqtoberfest has quickly become one of the most popular Halloween events in Southern California, attracting visitors from all over the country.

This super fun event is packed with entertainment for visitors of all ages.  Explore the notorious haunted ship and discover the newest Halloween attraction, The Grey Ghost.

Then head over the Pirates Cove, and find “Captain Shaq’s Hideaway” where you can grab a shot of rum punch and toast to the pirate’s life.  

And of course when we said entertainment for all, we spoke the truth.  This event also features, VIP Slam Dunk Lounge, Midway Madness, street carnival rides, and games.  

Last but not least, visit Diesel’s Pumpkin Patch where you’ll find activities including trick or treating, face painting, and pumpkin carving.

3 – Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios

Description:

LifeHacksLA recommends Halloween Horror Nights as your next Halloween scary experience.  Why?  Because it is the scariest Halloween event in LA, take our word for it, as we visited recently. 

Halloween Horror Nights is one of if not the most popular Halloween event in the city and is held at Universal Studios Hollywood. It features haunted houses, scare zones, live shows, and other attractions based on popular horror films and TV shows.

The event is known for its high production values and its commitment to scaring its guests. The haunted houses are typically updated each year with new scares and effects, so there is always something new to see and experience.

This year all ticket holders will get the scare of their lives with 8 haunted houses based on the biggest names in horror, including The Exorcist: Believer, Stranger Things 4, and Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count. 

But there is more, Terror Tram is also back this year, and this time the bugs are taking over. And of course the scare-actors will be dressed up as face nightmarish creatures, terrorizing guests.  You’ll see them pop up to scare you sometimes when you least expect it.

4 – Nights of the Jack

Description:

Nights of the Jack is back for its 2023 season, and it’s bigger and better than ever.  Featuring a mile-long trail of illuminated jack-o’-lanterns, a Día de los Muertos scene, lantern art, and an augmented reality scavenger hunt, this is one of the most popular immersive Halloween experiences in Los Angeles.

The mile-long trail takes you through the King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas and is the main attraction of Nights of the Jack. On the trail you will encounter thousands of hand-carved jack-o’-lanterns and pumpkins that are arranged in magnificent elaborate displays that will entertain everyone.

Need a drink to calm your Halloween nerves? You will want to check out the onsite Spookeasy! Night of the Jacks has partnered with the ever popular Malibu wines so you can enjoy great selections of wine and beers at the event.  And if you really want to get into the spirit be sure to ask for a Halloween cocktail.  Besides the Spookeasy there will also food trucks, and Halloween themed treats will be available.  Eat, drink, and be scary!

5 – Angel of Light – A Haunting Immersive Horror Experience

Description:

If terror is your thing, then you need to check out Angel of Light, a new immersive horror experience in Los Angeles. This 60-minute production takes you back to Old Hollywood in 1935, where you’ll witness the gripping and terrifying story of Rota Krisha, a young woman who is possessed by a demonic entity.

This terrorizing experience is set in the historic Located at the historic Los Angeles Theatre, a French baroque-style movie palace from 1931 in the heart of Downtown LA, which provides the perfect backdrop for the story.

You’ll explore the theater’s dark hallways, its underbelly, and its dark shadows, as you come face-to-face with the horrors of Rota’s curse. All guests and visitors must be 16+ to attend.
