Free Trolleys in LA and Surrounding Areas

Traffic have you frustrated? Ditch the car and embrace a trolley ride! In this post we have a pretty cool list of the best trolley rides in LA and surrounding areas, so you can relax and explore the unique charm of SoCal’s trolleys, from coastal cruising to city adventures.

Each town has its own unique schedule and route, so be sure to check their websites beforehand. These trolleys are a fantastic (and free!) way to explore the gems of Southern California.

 


1 – The Pick Up in We-Ho

Description:

We-Ho Pickup Trolley is your weekend free ride! The We-Ho Pick Up operates Friday and Saturday evenings from 8 pm to 3 am, and on Sundays from 2 pm to 10 pm. It cruises between La Brea Ave and Robertson Blvd on Santa Monica Blvd, making stops every two to three blocks. With shuttles arriving roughly every 15 minutes, you won’t need to wait long to catch a ride.

So next time you’re planning a night out in West Hollywood, consider taking the We-Ho Pick Up trolley.

It’s a convenient, fun, and eco-friendly way to navigate the city and experience the vibrant nightlife of West Hollywood. The trolley allows you to explore WEHO night life without drinking and driving or having to navigate the difficult traffic and parking.

2 – San Pedro Waterfront

Description:

The San Pedro Waterfront Trolley is your ticket to hassle-free exploration. This charming open-air trolley cruises you around the key points of interest in the area including Los Angeles Maritime Museum, Battleship IOWA, Cabrillo Beach, Downtown San Pedro, Gateway Plaza, and CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles.

Enjoy the sights, the salty breeze, and the vibrant atmosphere of the waterfront. Capture incredible photos, listen to the lively chatter of fellow travelers, and let the trolley take the stress out of sightseeing.

3 – Laguna Beach Trolley

Description:

Laguna Beach offers stunning coastline, world-class art scene, and charming shops. Enjoy all of this California dream without stress of finding a parking spot and without paying a cent! The Coastal Route, the crown jewel of the Laguna Beach Free Trolley system, whisks you along the iconic Pacific Coast Highway. 

This scenic route connects key points of interest, allowing you to hop on and off to explore at your own pace. Where does it take you? Some fun stops include Laguna Village, Laguna Beach Art District, and Main Beach.  It runs daily from 9 to 7 pm and even later on Fridays and Saturdays.

4 – Dana Point Trolley

Description:

The Dana Point Summer Trolley is your ticket to a stress-free adventure, whisking you around town in open-air comfort – all for free! The Summer Trolley boasts not one, but two loops, ensuring you hit all the best spots.

Hop onto the North Loop if you are a beach bum, this loop takes you to Doheny State Beach and Dana Strand Beach, where you can soak up the sun, catch some waves, or build sensational sandcastles.  The trolley even has surfboard racks, so bring your board and catch some waves!

Hope onto the South Loop if you are a shopaholic and a foodie! This loop winds through Dana Point Harbor, where you can browse unique shops, indulge in fresh seafood at waterfront restaurants, or simply soak in the sights of bobbing boats.

The Summer Trolley operates daily from late June to Labor Day weekend. Exact timings and route specifics can be found on the Dana Point Chamber website.

5 – San Clemente Trolley

Description:

Beautiful San Clemente – The Spanish Village by the Sea, provides all visitors with a fun daily trolley service.  The bright red and blue set of wheels cruises along two routes – the Red Line for the downtown core and the Blue Line venturing north.

Hop on at the pier and enjoy the ocean breeze. The trolley makes frequent stops, allowing you to explore all that San Clemente has to offer. Riders can expect a trolley at each stop about every 15 minutes.  

The trolley conveniently stops near the iconic San Clemente State Beach, fantastic shops, and restaurants.  And don’t be afraid to venture beyond the stops. San Clemente boasts a beautiful pier with striking ocean views, the charming Casa Romantica cultural center, and the San Clemente State Beach Trail for a scenic hike.
