And we are not just talking about the obvious stuff like Disneyland.

No there is plenty to do here that won’t cost you big bucks but will still be a day to remember for both you and the kids.

So whether you are watching your nieces and nephews or you have little tykes of your own peep out 6 of our favorite #LAHACKER kid friendly + adult fun activities in Los Angeles.

1 – Golden Road Brewery, Glendale

Golden Road Brewery

Description:

Giant breweries packed with fun activities is all the rage in LA these days. But what’s even cooler is that many of them are very kid friendly in a way that you wouldn’t expect a spot dedicated to alcohol would be.

One of the best examples is Golden Road Brewery near Glendale. This beloved local gem features an indoor and outdoor space with a restaurant and brewhouse and packed with singles and families alike all enjoying the good vibes of Golden Road.

They have a huge selection of seasonal beer and the food is amazing with plenty of choices for little kids and big kids alike!

On the outdoor patio, there is room for kids to run around and there are a bunch of free fun games to play. Another added charm is they are very close to train tracks so every once in a while you will hear (and feel) the rumbling of the locomotives going by which usually gets the kids excited.

Have a fur baby? Besides being kid friendly this is one of the most dog-friendly breweries you will ever find. From little Terriers to big Great Danes you will find them all roaming the massive outdoor area and it almost feels like a dog park with a brewery attached.

2 – California Science Center

California Science Center

Description:

The California Science Center is located in awesome Exposition Park and is one of the most popular museums with kids in Los Angeles.

Not only is it very educational for both kids and adults, but it is presented in a fun way, with many spaces for kids to roam around explore, play and be interactive.

While the kids are interacting exhibits, adults can browse around and read about the amazing contributions the state of California has had to science and space travel.

California Science Center is a great place to visit from time to time for visitors or locals since they change exhibits often enough that you will likely see something new every time you go.

The Science Center is located in Exposition Park and just a short walk from the brand new upscale food hall called The Fields. It is a fun place to take kids to eat because of its massive size and abundance of food choices that should satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.

3 – Griffith Park

Griffith Park

Description:

Griffith Park is one of the best examples of how Los Angeles shines as an outdoor destination for nature lovers despite being in one of the largest urban cities in the world.

The park covers over 4,000 acres of land, making it one of the largest parks with urban wilderness areas in the United States. The park contains landscaped and untamed areas with about 53 miles of hiking trails.

You can hike easy, moderate and difficult trails that will show you incredible views of Los Angeles including the iconic Hollywood sign.

In addition to the incredible observatory, the park houses a famous merry-go-round that inspired Walt Disney, Bronson’s Caves from the 1960s TV Batman series, the Old LA Zoo, numerous parks, a golf course and so much more.

No matter who you are, man, woman or child you could spend days exploring the many awesome activities at,  incredible Griffith Park.

A trip to Travel Town has to be on the list when you go to Griffith Park with kids.  The popular museums are dedicated (to you guessed it) Travel! There are beautiful trains, locomotives a small museum, a picnic area and best of all it’s FREE!

If you are feeling ritzy you can pony up $3.50 for the kids to ride a little train.

4 – Hermosa Beach Pier

Hermosa Beach Pier

Description:

The Hermosa Beach Pier is one of my favorites beach areas to bring kids to. First off its spacious with plenty of room to run around, and of course it’s beautiful (it has earned the name Hermosa)!

Another thing we like about Hermosa is the huge open plaza in front of the pier.

It’s open enough where your kids can run around a bit while you enjoy a drink or a bite at one of the amazing bars/restaurants that line either side.

Love Sunsets? We put the Hermosa Beach Pier near the top of any list when it comes to capturing a perfect sunset in LA.  Come down about 30 minutes before so you have plenty of time to find parking and the best spot.

Be it from the sandy beach, the end of the Pier or one of the restaurant decks you will have plenty of spectacular choices.

5 – El Capitan Theatre (Tiny Tots)

El Capitan Theatre

Description:

There is going to catch a flick at your local theatre and then there is an entire movie-going experience in the heart of Hollywood at the famous El Capitan Theatre.

First built way back in 1926, this magical theatre is designated as an LA cultural-historic monument and with one visit you will know why.

Even with multiple remodels necessary for a structure this old, they have managed to retain much of the majestic old school charm that makes it special. From the walls, the flooring, the screen curtains, the ceiling the theatre is bursting with gorgeous architectural detail sure to delight adults and kids alike.

This is the heart of one of the craziest places in all of LA, Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk of Fame. Because of this as you can imagine parking is an absolute nightmare. 2 ways to save your day.

One option is to take the underground Redline Metro. The Hollywood & Highland stop is directly across the street from the theater.

If you must drive here is a parking hack:

Park at the huge Hollywood and Highland complex across the street from El Capitan. Take Highland. Remember to take your parking ticket to validate at any place such as the El Captain theatre, any food or shop within the parking structure.

Here were rates as of this writing: (May 2019) This is dirt cheap compared to what you pay at nearby lots.

$3.00 for up to 2 hours with validation from Hollywood & Highland participating shops, restaurants or nightclubs.

$3.00 for up to 4 hours with validation from participating cinemas

$2.00 for every 20 minutes thereafter ($6.00 per hour)

6 – La Brea Tar Pits

La Brea Tar Pits

Description:

Where can you go that is free, has room for kids to run around and has fascinating information available for both kids and adults?

Well, our pick that hits all those checkboxes is the La Brea Tar Pits in Mid City. The massive outdoor park is located next to the LACMA and allows you to roam around free and learn the history of these tar pits that date back to the dinosaur age and are still bubbling today!

It is free to roam the park and look at all the outdoor exhibits there is a cost to enter the indoor Page Museum and view those exhibits.

Kids tuckered out from running around the park and learning about dinosaurs? Now is a good time for some adult fun. Grab a classy cocktail at Ray’s Stark & Bar in front of the LACMA.

It is a little pricey but worth it to kick back after a long day with a drink outside in the beautiful atmosphere of the LACMA as a backdrop.
