January means the start of a new year! And while its been a busy few months with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations we are still looking for new and exciting things to do in Los Angeles this month.
If you’re just starting to plan your year and maybe make some new year resolutions for 2023 make sure you add some awesome local adventures to the list and get started on them in January.
Of course in Los Angeles there is no shortage of amazing activities for everyone to enjoy.
There is a wide variety of fun activities in January and here is a list of very entertaining things to do this month.

1 – Visit a New Restaurant
Description:
Be sure to visit The Chap in Hollywood this month as this awesome new British Pub named after iconic Hollywood entertainer Charlie Chaplin just recently opened. Featuring innovative tasty cocktails including Paint It Black, Bittersweet Symphony, The Churchill and many more. You can also find a wide range of beer selections.
Niku X is a brand new upscale restaurant, located at Wilshire Grand Center Downtown. Expect a modern contemporary Japanese cuisine, and overall elevated experience sure to please. The staff is very experienced, attentive and provide excellent customer service. The 9,000 square feet space is absolutely beautiful and the venue can accommodate up to 160 guests. Enjoy a private dining area, and reservations for private events are also available. This is an upscale experience so you will be paying for it but for special occasions its definelty worth it!
Another recommendation for you to try this month is Paloma in Venice. This beautiful spot designed to take advantage of our gorgeous California weather, offers lots of outdoor seating areas with umbrellas and lush greenery. It is located on the busy corner of Abbot Kinney and Venice Blvd. The menu is refined Mediterranean, featuring seasonal ingredients a perfect spot for brisk January days.

2 – Astra Lumina Palos Verdes
Description:
If you didn’t get a chance to catch this spectacular outdoor light show over the Holiday break, don’t worry. Astra Lumina is still going for a few more weeks until January 15th.
This is not typical Christmas lights show at a Botanical Garden, instead this very unique experience takes you down a path of mysterious grounds to discover a celestial pathway of lustrous light, cosmic visions, and astral songs. The pleasant sounds and relaxing nature all around you prepares you for an amazing display of lights, to make you feel as if you were surrounded by stars.
Expect about 45 minutes mild trail walk, bathrooms are conveniently located right off the entrance. Also, you can grab a hot cocoa before the walk, find classic and holiday flavors topped with cream, sprinkles, marshmallows, and candy cane. Other snacks and a bar are also available.

3 – ANIME Impulse
Description:
Come visit this fun convention, Anime Impulse to immerse yourself in all things anime, video games, and manga. A great place to meet other anime fans, and find unique hard to get items at the 2 day gathering.
While its held in a much smaller venue than Comic Con at the LA Convention Center, it still offers plenty of space to explore all your favorites in the world of Anime. This will be the 6th year its hosted here at the Fairplex in Pomona. They don’t consider themselves a simple convention however as ANIME Impulse goal is to host a weekend-long celebration of all things anime, manga, video games, and fandom and do it with a massive Vendor Hall and Artist Alley for attendees to shop to their hearts’ content, special appearances from voice actors, cosplayers, influencers, and streamers, live entertainment on its mainstage, and a huge selection of tasty treats from all sorts of food booths.
This event is presented by Toyota and is on January 14 and 15 from 10:00 am to 7 pm. Tickets for 2 day passes available on line for $40.
ANIME Impulse pass also gives you access to K-PLAY FEST, Sneaker Expo, and Asian American Expo.

4 – Celebrate MLK Day
Description:
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day is celebrated every year on the third Monday of January. On this day, we are encouraged to volunteer and to help in our communities. Here are some great events happening this month in recognition of Dr. King’s day.
The 38th Annual Kingdom Day Parade in Los Angeles is on January 16th, starting at 11:00 am. This year’s theme is “America, The Last Best Hope of the World.” You may register online at https://kingdomdayparade.org/ This event presented by Blue Shield of CA and is expected to be one of the biggest local MLK celebrations. If you cannot make it in person it will also be televised.
Santa Monica Symphony presents MLK Holiday Concert. This concert will be held at John Adams Middle School Performing Arts Center, on January 14th. It is free to attend and you can register online here.
As one would expect the California African American Museum will be celebrating MLK with King Day, this family friendly event invites all Angelenos to participate on Monday January 16th. This year’s theme is “Legacy of Service.” The program include performances, and family activities.
Last year King Day was only online so this is your chance to once again celebrate Dr Kings legacy in person at the museum. Its free to attend but you must register ahead of time and you can do that here.

5 – David Zwirner New Art Gallery in LA
Description:
Exciting news for all you art lovers who are looking for a new art gallery in Los Angeles. With Galleries in New York, London, Paris, and Hong Kong, artist David Zwirner has announced the opening of his new location in LA on January 2023.
David Zwirner has constructed the new gallery from the ground up and renovated two existing buildings on North Western Avenue, between Melrose Avenue and Clinton Street, in East Hollywood. Now being dubbed “EaHo” the area is already starting to get some cool stores and great restaurants so this new gallery will make a great addition to the area.
The newly constructed three-story building, located at 606 North Western Avenue, will open to the public in January 2023 with an exhibition of new work by Njideka Akunyili Crosby.
This will be David Zwirner’s first exhibition with the Los Angeles–based artist and art fans are buzzing in anticipation for the opening.
