But with all LA’s Korea Town has to offer its probably best known for its amazing food! In this post we gathered the best 5 foods you must try when visiting this iconic neighborhood, because no K-town adventure is complete without indulging in its culinary scene.

1 – Sun Nong Dan

Sun Nong Dan

Description:

When visiting K-town it can be intimidating deciding what to eat, because of the countless restaurants to choose from. But fear not, fellow foodie, for we have a recommendation that’s sure to set your taste buds ablaze (quite literally): Sun Nong Dan.

Their menu boasts a variety of Korean staples, but there’s one dish that reigns supreme: the galbi jjim. This isn’t your average short rib dish. Sun Nong Dan takes it to a whole new level with their blow-torched cheese extravaganza.

Sun Nong Dan’s galbi jjim is served in a bubbling cauldron, perfect for sharing with a group. Be prepared for a feast!  Expect very tender short ribs, lovingly braised in a spicy galbi sauce.   The cauldron is also filled with yummy vegetables like onions, carrots, and potatoes, soaking up all that delicious sauce.

The server arrives tableside with a blowtorch, ready to melt a generous layer of shredded mozzarella cheese on top. It’s a truly dramatic presentation that will have you reaching for your camera (and your spoon!).

2 – Hangari Kalguksu

Hangari Kalguksu

Description:

Hangari Kalguksu is known for their wonderful Korean comfort meals that include dumplings, bibimbap, and bossam.  So we asked our Korean friends what do they love most about Hangari Kalguksu, and they all had the same answer, noodle soup.  No surprise here since Kalguksu actually means hand-cut noodles.

So when craving a taste of Korea, come to Hangari Kalguksu, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of LA’s Koreatown.  Slurp up Seoul’s comfort while diving into Hangari Kalguksu’s Savory Noodle Soups.   This restaurant centers around delicious bowls of steaming goodness, and they take pride in their house-made noodles.

Beyond the broth the restaurant also specializes in other bowl foods.  Try their popular bossam,   which is a melt-in-your-mouth boiled pork belly, and it is served with all the traditional fixings like kimchi and pickled vegetables.  Also find pan-fried mandu, and bibimbap.

Chosun Galbee

Looking for something a bit different?  The popular Chosun Galbee restaurant offers a unique twist on a classic Korean dish – galbi, or short ribs – that will have your taste buds singing.

The short ribs are marinated to perfection, ensuring they’re tender on the inside and beautifully caramelized on the outside.

Beyond the meat, Chosun Galbee offers an array of delicious banchan (side dishes). 5 – Han Bat Sul Lung Tang

Han Bat Sul Lung Tang

Description:

Nothing is more authentic than a traditional Korean ox bone soup, and there is no better place to find it than Han Bat Lung Tang.  This restaurant has been a Koreatown staple for decades. Long before the bone broth craze swept through LA, this restaurant was already simmering giant vats of this milky white soup.

Their secret lies in the slow and meticulous preparation. The bones are boiled for hours, extracting their rich flavor and creating a collagen-rich broth that’s both hearty and healthy.

What makes Han Bat Sul Lung Tang special is the choose-your-own-adventure approach. Your order comes with a steaming bowl of the base soup, but the real fun lies in customizing it to your taste.   Protein choices include brisket, flank steak, tongue, and even a mix for the adventurous eater.   And simple sides like steamed rice and kimchi.

Han Bat is a true hole-in-the-wall experience. Don’t expect fancy decor or extensive service. It’s a place to focus on the simple pleasure of a delicious, soul-warming meal.  The portions are generous, and the prices are incredibly reasonable.
