Los Angeles has some amazing hiking opportunities. People are all over the trails in the Summer time.
But there are also some great hikes that are better suited for the Fall and Winter.
Of course it doesn’t usually get too cold for us here in SoCal but these are some of favorite trails to take when we have that cooler weather of Fall and Winters seasons.
1 – Citrus State Historic Park
Description:
Winter is the best time to savor juicy and delicious oranges and other citrus fruits. One of our favorite places to do it is a guided tour at this citrus park.
Your guide will take you for a nice walk throughout the park, during this trek they will stop and help you cut some fruit that you sample while you learn about the variety of trees.
Please note that you can’t cut fruits yourself and there is a pretty hefty fine if you get caught doing it. Only your tour guide can pick the fruit.
Hence we highly recommend the guided tours, these are Saturday and Sunday only.

The Grove tours are an awesome way to have some outdoor fun. But there availability for tours can change quickly due to weather and other conditions.

2 – Ice House Canyon Hike
Description:
Ready to take a break from the usual dusty trails? Take the trek up to the Icehouse saddle during the winter and walk through some beautiful trails with patches of ice.
Don’t forget your water proofed hiking boots, warm coat and other useful gear. There is a chance you may see snow a rare opportunity this close to Los Angeles.
This hike is rated medium not a beginner. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and take lots of memorable pics.

This is not normally considered a very difficult hike. But Fall Winter conditions can change this as you may encounter some snow or ice (there is a reason it has that name).
Be sure to be properly prepared for the weather conditions when you go with the right equipment.
3 – Sandstone Peak
Description:
Did you know that Sandstone peak is the tallest point in the Santa Monica mountains? Now that’s a view you most go and check out!
At 3,111 feet you can take some spectacular pictures while enjoying the fresh air.
To get to the summit you will need to make your way up via a 6.25-mile loop with 1,075 feet of elevation gain.
Besides those expansive, spectacular views of the range the payoff will be bragging rights of making it up this high.

If you go in early November it can still be pretty hot and there is very little shade. If you go on a hot day start early and take plenty of water.
Also don’t forget to sign the guest book when you reach the peak!
4 – Pacific Crest Trail
Description:
Particularly referred by many as one of the best trail experiences, this hike offers some of the most beautiful views in the country.
Being America’s second longest trail, stretching from Mexico to Canada through the states of California, Oregon, and Washington it is a bucket list adventure for serious hikers.
This is a hardcore hike you need to research and understand before undertaking any part of.

5 – San Gabriel Peak
Description:
The San Gabriel Peak is a hiking gem located within the spectacular beauty of the Angeles National Forest.
This beautiful trail well known for its wild flowers, looks particularly attractive with a little snow in it.
This is a short, steep hike that is fairly easy for a peak hike so don’t miss on this fun adventure where pleasant and gorgeous panorama awaits to be enjoyed.

If you are not a super experienced hiker but want to knock some Peaks off your list this is a good one to start with. It is a fairly easy, shaded, and short hike, that even moderate hikers should be able to conquer.
