The Dog 🐶 Lovers Guide to Hacking LA

In the City of Angels, we love our doggies. And Los Angeles is without a doubt one of the most dog-friendly cities in America!

You will find dog-friendly parks, cafes, coffee shops, breweries, and even restaurants!

And part of the reason for that is because LA business owners know how much we love our fur babies so the smart ones specifically make a point to cater to our canine compadres.

In this article, we are going to hack some activities you can do with your best bud in some of our favorite dog-friendly spots in Los Angeles.

1 – Take A Dog-Friendly Hike @Runyon Canyon

Runyon Canyon Dog Hike

Description:

Nicknamed Runway Canyon for all the beautiful hard bodies that hike this area, Runyon Canyon is also one of the best places in the city to hike with your furry friend.

Right in perfect view of the world-famous Hollywood Sign are long dirt trails you can hike up for a day of fun and good exercise for you and your pup.

Runyon is probably the most popular hiking destination in all of Los Angeles.

And if you have been there you know why. Not only does it have a crazy convenient location but there are about 160 acres of winding trails for you to enjoy, each showcasing the amazing views of our beautiful city.

But it is not only an awesome place for us human folk to get some exercise it is also one gigantic dog-friendly zone.

As you walk through the main entrance on Fuller you will need to have your dog on a leash. But after just a short walk up the trail, you will see a marked gate where dogs are allowed to be released off-leash!

Unlike a typical dog park, there is no specific large area for dogs to frolic,  but you are allowed to have your bff follow you up to the trails that wind slowly up to the top of the canyon.

Location:

Runyon Canyon Rd

Los Angeles, CA 90046

hack:

Runyon Canyon is an awesome spot for some doggie freedom. We don’t want it taken away so please be a responsible dog owner.

Only take your pet off the leash when you reach the designated areas and put them back on when necessary.

If your dog is aggressive be sure to keep them close by as they may encounter other unleashed dogs on the trail. And for all that is holy in this world, please, please pick up after your dog!

Let’s keep Runyon Canyon Fido-friendly!

2 – Get Some Cuddles & Coffee @The Dog Cafe

The Dog Cafe Los Angeles

Description:

Want to go somewhere you can sip a cup of coffee, play with puppies and contribute to a good cause?

The Dog Cafe in Westlake says its the first dog cafe of its kind in America!

And unlike dog cafes in other countries (where this is more popular), these dogs are all rescues looking to be adopted into their forever homes.

Make your reservation online and for $15 (that includes your coffee/tea) you can play with the pups for an hour.

Keep in mind that the $15 is like a donation going towards the cause of puppy rescue and adoption.

Location:

240 N Virgil Ave 12 & 12B, Los Angeles, CA 90004

hack:

Ironically the most dog-centric place on our list actually does not allow you to bring your own dog. This spot is dedicated to puppies that need a new home not ones that already have one.

So if you want to play with some new pups leave your pooch at home. And who knows? You might just come home with a new doggie playmate for your best bud.

3 – Frolic in the Sand @Huntington Dog Beach

Huntington Dog Beach

Description:

Imagine this…the warm sun is on your back, the sounds of crashing waves is in your ears, the sand is between your toes, and there are happy pups running around like crazy everywhere!

That is the scene every day at Huntington Dog Beach one of only two off-leash dog beaches in our area (Rosies Dog Beach in Long Beach is the other one).

If you want to give your puppy the equivalent of Doggie Disneyland let him frolic and run free on Dog Beach in Huntington.

Location:

100 Goldenwest St F, Huntington Beach, CA 92648

hack:

Beware of squirrels! There is a gang of squirrels at this beach and they love to taunt the dogs who go crazy chasing them. It is funny at first but can get very old if you have the type of dog who loves to chase.

So you have been warned: Beware the taunting squirrels!

4 – Kick Back w/ a Drink @Angel City Brewery

Angel City Brewery Dog Friendly

Description:

Angel City Brewery in the Arts District is one of our favorite breweries but they earn some extra points for also being one of the most dog-friendly as well.

If you want to enjoy a tasty pint no need to leave your best friend at home. Angel City welcomes well behaved (and leashed) dogs in the Public House. Dogs are not allowed in their brewing area.

Angel City Brewery is a huge space with plenty of space to roam and when you go you will likely see several other dogs.

It is a fun and relaxing environment with lots of great beer, games to play and food trucks outside.

You can hang out with your pal inside our out and its a great place to spend an afternoon.

216 S Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

hack:

Angel City Brewery is extremely dog-friendly but they also want to look out for their non-doggie customers. So they insist that you keep your dog on a leash at all times. And that you clean up after them. If you follow the rules you will have fun. If not you might just get the boot! 👢

5 – Grab Some Tasty Treats @The Morrison

The Morrison Los Feliz Dog Friendly

Description:

This popular little pub in Atwater Village is next level committed to providing top-notch service for both you and your dog.

Dog-friendly restaurants and pubs have popped up all over Los Angeles but The Morrison has an actual menu curated just for pups!

Your canine companion will be to busy scarfing up their own tasty meal to be thinking about begging and stealing the table scraps while you’re enjoying your meal with a cold pint.

Location:

3179 Los Feliz Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039

hack:

Ok, this hack isn’t for your doggie. This one is for you. Want an amazing human treat? The Morrison is known for having the most delicious and decadent Bread pudding in all of Los Angeles.

I can personally vouch for how tasty it is. But you don’t have to take my word for it.

It has been officially voted LAs Best Bread Pudding by Yelp users.
