Disneyland Best Rides for Adults

Whether you call Southern California home or you just like to visit, a trip to Disneyland is one of those things you have to do at least once.  And many of us go as often as we can.  I actually know a couple of people who go to Disneyland almost every week! They escape to the magical park often to calm their souls and take a break from the real world.  Which is pretty awesome, what better place to do that than the Happiest Place on Earth?

But is it just for kids? Heck no. Disney has plenty for just the grown ups to enjoy. So for your next adults only trip, we recommend Disneyland.  It is the perfect place for grown ups to have fun, loosen up a bit and actually feel like a kid again.

And if you go later in the day, the crowds that are mostly families may have thinned out a bit.  In this post we have collected the best rides for adults to enjoy the fun and scream your hearts out.  But since this is a grown up only kind of treat, also make sure to stop at the Tenaya Spa for an amazing experience and a luxurious body treatment after the action.  Also, enjoy fine adult style dining at The Napa Rose.

But lets get to the adult friendly rides!

NOTE: Suggestions are Disneyland and California Adventure.

1 – Star Wars – Rise of the Resistance

Description:

We start with one of the newest and most popular attractions, the incredible Galaxy’s Edge, perfect for all Star Wars aficionados.  There you can find the two main rides which are Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. The Resistance ride is a one of a kind thrill and takes you inside the Star Wars world as you are part of the action in a battle between the Resistance and the First Order.

While you are in this ride, you will have an awesome time with characters while taking part in a daring escape.  This is one of the most unique and incredible rides but no spoilers here, just know it will be thrilling, action packed and worth the wait!

Also, while you are in Galaxy’s Edge, do try to reserve a stop at Oga’s Cantina.  This is the spot where you can drink alcohol in another galaxy but do remember to keep your cool because in this unpredictable dark den you will encounter bounty hunters, smugglers, rogue traders and other interesting travelers.

2 – Incredicoaster

Description:

If a thrilling ride with over a 100 foot drop is your kind of thing, IncrediCoaster is for you.  But the thrills aren’t just with the huge drop and the giant upside down loop, it is also the fastest ride in Disney with a speed of 55 mph, so hold onto your hats!

The ride is on the California Adventure side by Pixar Pier with an Incredibles theme.  It has fun special and visual effects including chocolate cookie scent, and characters with lasers and other entertainment while the ride rockets through the tunnel.

Remember to check your Disney app for schedules, this ride closes a bit early on some occasions.  And while you are there get in the Pixar Pal Around for a 150 foot tall scenic Ferris wheel.

It’s a great view!

3 – Guardians of the Galaxy

Description:

Love that feeling of a complete stomach drop? Get ready for the ultimate free fall drop experience.  Guardians of the Galaxy is a 199 foot drop from 13 stories and the plunge is thrilling.

Like many rides in Disneyland/California Adventure, this one also comes with an epic storyline.  It is all about the characters from one of favorite Super Hero groups that include, Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Drax and Groot being held captive in the Collector’s electrified dangling glass cases.  After Rocket escapes, you will help him with a rescue mission for the others.

Expect impressive effects, characters, blasting music from Star-Lord’s mixtapes, and of course those stomach wrenching drops.

4 – Space Mountain

Description:

This is a classic ride that has been electrifying guests since its opening in the late seventies.  Although its one of the oldest rides in the park it still has some of the longest lines. People love the rapid twists and turns in the pitched dark that gives riders a thrill and makes this classic ride still a nostalgic favorite especially among the older crowd.  Although Space Mountain looks a little dated as you make your way through the space station and onto the coasters its still one of the fastest and fun coasters at Disney.

Board your rocket in the loading “futuristic” station, and race through the cosmos in a spiral nebula with immersive sound effects in this fun indoor space theme ride.  Although the ride is 35mph you feel as if you were zooming a lot faster than that especially in the dark.

5 – Grizzly River Run

Description:

This is a kid friendly ride but still a thrill for adults as you tackle the great river rapids.  This is a awesome ride to enjoy when you are with a group of friends and want to get on an attraction with all of them.  Each circular raft can accommodate up to 8 people.

The theme of this ride is a wooded area with super fast rapids, a majestic grizzly bear, giant trees and thundering waterfalls.  This is the perfect ride to get on when you visit the park on a warm sunny day but yes you should expect to get soaked!

The most thrilling part? The ride will take you up to the top of the mountain as you brace yourself for an exiting descent down Grizzly River.
