The Culver City Arts District is a vibrant neighborhood located in the heart of Culver City. The area is home to a newly thriving community of artists, designers, and creatives, and is known for its abundance of galleries, studios and performance spaces.

The Culver City Arts District is also home to a number of restaurants, bars, and cafes, making it a popular destination for visitors looking to experience some of the best of Los Angeles’ arts and culture scene. Many of the buildings in the area have been repurposed as artist studios and galleries, giving the neighborhood a unique and eclectic feel.

Visitors can explore the many galleries and exhibitions on display, attend live performances, or simply take a stroll through the streets and enjoy the colorful murals and street art. Culver City Arts District is a for sure an up and coming hot spot to explore and spend a fun day or evening.  Whether you are going solo or with a group, the area will surely will please your appetite for entertainment.

So with all that how do you choose? From delightful art galleries with a wide variety of exhibits including contemporary art, and studios, trendy restaurants, bars and boutiques we share some of our favorites in this article.


1 – Art Galleries

Bradford Steward Culver City

Description:

The Culver City Arts District includes a collection of art galleries that feature a wide variety of fine art, sculpture, and street art.  There are multiple galleries in this area, and most of them can be found along Washington and La Cienega Boulevards.

If you like contemporary art, visit Bradford Steward.  This beautiful place features very fine art.  Also you can find FP Contemporary, displaying sculpture, abstract photography, and other fun art pieces.

Find inspiration for your next “Sip and Paint” at home by visiting Thinkspace Art Gallery.  This awesome venue is popular for supporting emerging talents, and displaying pop-artists exhibitions.  You can also expect to see some cool murals and street art just wandering the neighborhood.

2 – Where to Eat

 

Description:

Pinches Tacos Culver City

You’ll love all the variety of food spots in the Culver City Arts District.  Here are just a few great recommendations for you in this very walkable neighborhood with lots of eats.

In the mood for some good coffee? Visit Cognoscenti Coffee.  This roaster started brewing since 2009, and it continues to attract visitors from everywhere.  Whether you look for a cold brew or a steamy latte, you won’t be disappointed with your choice and your craving for high quality coffee will be satisfied.

Brunetto Trattoria, is an Italian restaurant featuring a great lunch, dinner and wine menu.  We recommend you try one of their several yummy pizzas.

Jr’s Barbeque, is serving it up original Memphis style.  This spot was voted one of the best barbeques in the city by the LA Times for good reason.  Their super tasty menu features several sandwiches including pulled pork and fork tender brisket.  Try the rib tip seasoned in your choice of BBQ sauce.  Also you can find beef, and chicken links.  And of course their signature Memphis style dinners.

For Mexican food in the area you can find plenty of options including El Rio Bravo, E.K Valley, and Pinches Tacos.

3 – Shopping

Reformation Culver City

Description:

Culver City Arts District has a variety of shopping boutiques and stores where you can find unique clothing pieces, and also specialty gifts including artisanal wines.

Stroll around and find those unique pieces you want to add to your collection or surprise someone special with a unique gift, or a bottle of artisan natural wine.

For a unique and elegant shopping experience visit Reformation clothing store.  This fabulous store is known for selling its own clothing designs, using vintage pieces and repurposed fabrics.  Sustainability and limited editions makes this store stand out even more.

For specialty gifts you must visit Bar and Garden.  This store offers a great variety of artisan items.   Find single source chocolate,  local beer, small batch spirits, and natural wines from vineyards that use no herbicides or pesticides.

4 – Special Events

Culver City Arts District

Description:

Expect a calendar full of creativity and fun events always going on in this area.  As the home of emerging and established artists, the Culver City Arts District provides cultural events, and art openings regularly throughout the year.

The community is provided with opportunities for meetings at some of the galleries, where they can meet and get their art signed by artists. Keep on the look out for these great events by visiting the Culver City Arts District website or checking with the galleries for upcoming artists signing.

Also visitors can attend art walks and find inspiration for their own work, and purchase pieces for their private home collections.  During art walk events, there is also fun live music and great food.

5 – Evening and Night Life

Industry Jazz Cafe Culver City

Description:

If you want to explore the Arts District in the evening, here are our recommendations of spots where you can have a good meal with entertainment.  And also grab some great cocktails for more fun.

First on the list is the Industry Café and Jazz.  This unique and eclectic restaurant is most popular for Eastern African and Ethiopian cuisine but has ventured out to cater to a broader community.  They are now serving fried chicken, deli sandwiches, deserts and other crowd pleaser dishes.  But what makes this place even more special, is their live performances including Jazz music nights on Sundays, and their Taco Tuesday Comedy Nights.

For another spot in the area that’s good to eat but has other entertainment check out El Baron Restaurant and Night Club.  People mostly hit up this neighborhood hotspot for South American vibe DJ’s, the live music, karaoke, and of course the cocktails.  The restaurant specializes in Latin and El Salvadorean dishes including carne asada, tamales, and pupusas.
