Are you craving a weekend escape that blends outdoor adventure, cultural immersion, and luxurious comfort? Look no further than Conejo Valley.

One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is close access to visit other amazing Southern California towns. And Conejo Valley is a perfect example. Less than an hour from DTLA and nestled between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, this hidden gem offers a diverse array of experiences.  It makes for a perfect quick family road trip, or weekend getaway.

We recently worked with Visit Conejo Valley and they shared some of the best of their best suggestions for our trip to “See Another Side of Southern California”. After exploring ourselves here are five must-do activities that we are sharing from our recent trip to the Conejo Valley.

We were there for a full weekend getaway, so we included a recommendation from our delightful stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Thousand Oaks Agoura Hills.

1 –  Fantastic Accommodations

Courtyard By Marriot Thousand Oaks

Description:

Conejo Valley offers tremendous beauty, so it is not difficult to find a wonderful place to stay. But we were very pleased with our experience there and highly recommend Courtyard by Marriott Thousand Oaks Agoura Hills

This hotel is conveniently located near Conejo Valley’s top attractions. The hotel is beautiful, and it offers modern amenities and comfortable accommodation for a peaceful stay.

You can also expect friendly staff ready to help you and your group during your stay.  Also, treat yourself to a delicious meal at The Bistro, serving a variety of breakfast and dinner options, along with evening cocktails.

To enhance your experience, the hotel is equipped with an enchanting courtyard, and a large swimming pool. And do not forget to check out their fitness center to work off some of the calories you will be gaining during this trip.

2 –Where to Eat

Mouthful Thousand Oaks

Description:

No matter what meal or time of day it is, we have some of the best places to eat in Conejo Valley here for you.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Eggs ‘n Things, a beloved local spot renowned for its pancakes, omelets, and, of course, eggs prepared in various styles. From classic favorites to innovative creations, there is something on the menu to satisfy every palate.  We highly recommend you try the other special they are highly known for, their delicious and authentic Swedish pancakes! The tasty combination of butter, fruit, and of course powdered sugar will get your day off to a great start.

Our personal favorite spot to have lunch in the Conejo Valley is Mouthful Eatery in Thousand Oaks.  This Peruvian casual eatery is led by a talented chef Luis Sanchez and his enthusiastic commitment to seasonal ingredients.  Mouthful’s menu features the most vibrant and tasty salads, sandwiches, and bowls that you can customize with your choice of protein and other fabulous ingredients.  And they are all delicious!

For a taste of the local craft beer scene, head over to Tarantula Hill Brewing. This cool brewery boasts a welcoming atmosphere and a diverse selection of handcrafted beers, perfect for enjoying with friends or savoring solo.  They also have a terrific menu, we love their savory tacos, or try one of their tasty wood fired pizzas.

Looking for a more vibrant yet sophisticated place for dinner? Then look no further than Plata Cocina.  With 2 locations in the Conejo Valley this contemporary eatery specializes in Mexican cuisine with a modern flair and is the go-to spot for locals with a craving for Mexican food and margaritas.

From sizzling fajitas to flavorful tacos and zesty ceviche, Plata Cocina takes diners on a culinary journey through the diverse regions of Mexico. Pair your meal with a refreshing margarita or mezcal cocktail for the perfect combination of flavors and spirits.

No foodie adventure is complete without a visit to a beloved local deli. Italia Deli in Agoura Hills is family owned and operated and has been a Conejo Valley staple since it first opened in 1981. This local gem offers a wide selection of imported Italian cheeses, meats, and other gourmet products. But we recommend you grab a delicious panini or Italian sandwich from the deli for a picnic lunch at one of the beautiful outdoor nature spots nearby.

Finally, indulge your sweet tooth at Little Calf Creamery. Yet another Thousand Oaks local favorite, this artisanal ice cream shop uses fresh, local ingredients to create unique and delicious flavors. From classic vanilla to adventurous options like lavender honey or goat cheese caramel, there is a scoop for everyone. And all times of day, hot or cold, you will find a line of locals waiting to enjoy their treat.

5 – Evening and Night Life

Industry Jazz Cafe Culver City

Description:

If you want to explore the Arts District in the evening, here are our recommendations of spots where you can have a good meal with entertainment.  And also grab some great cocktails for more fun.

First on the list is the Industry Café and Jazz.  This unique and eclectic restaurant is most popular for Eastern African and Ethiopian cuisine but has ventured out to cater to a broader community.  They are now serving fried chicken, deli sandwiches, deserts and other crowd pleaser dishes.  But what makes this place even more special, is their live performances including Jazz music nights on Sundays, and their Taco Tuesday Comedy Nights.

For another spot in the area that’s good to eat but has other entertainment check out El Baron Restaurant and Night Club.  People mostly hit up this neighborhood hotspot for South American vibe DJ’s, the live music, karaoke, and of course the cocktails.  The restaurant specializes in Latin and El Salvadorean dishes including carne asada, tamales, and pupusas.

The beautiful city of Los Angeles is not traditionally known for being walkable.  In fact, our city has always had the reputation of ‘car is mandatory’ to tackle those freeways and navigate the heavy traffic.

Really the main reason you need a car is too reach places far from you because Los Angeles is so spread out. But if you hang out in one area most LA neighborhoods are actually very walk-friendly.

Shopping destinations are among the most common and enjoyable activities to do in this diverse city and for most, you don’t need your car (except maybe to get there).

Because of our amazing weather, there is a large selection of outdoor malls. Some look like mini towns and are filled with tons of stores to please crowds with all kinds of interests.

So in this article, we share some fun shopping experiences, with good looking stores, great food, tasty drinks, and lots of valuable space.

If you are looking for places to walk and shop in Los Angeles here they are for you, 5 of our favorite walkable LA shopping neighborhoods.

You can shop for some unique items in some historical areas that include Santee Alley, Jewelry district, Olvera street, and more.

2 – Pasadena

Pasadena Shopping

This captivating city with a small-town feel will charm you with its architecture, hundreds of restaurants, shopping choices, major events like the popular chalk festival, and much more.

Get in the shopping spirit and visit Old Town, The Paseo, or the Rose Bowl Flea Market for some epic shopping adventures.

Location: Pasadena CA

hack:

Some have complained that Old Town is getting too many commercial chains and losing some of its charms.

But there are still plenty of independent own shops with plenty of character you can check out.

Here is a link to a great article from Visit Pasadena that lists 12 of them. Pasadena vintage shops.

3 – Hollywood

Hollywood Shopping

Description:

Get a one of a kind of experience on the streets of Hollywood with famous names etched beneath your feet on the Walk of Fame while being surrounded by the infamous real-life street characters.

Jam-packed on both sides of the Walk of Fame is a unique mix of seedy and upscale stores.

Take a break and shoot some selfies outside the prettiest movie theaters in the city, or museums holding the secrets of Hollywood past.

4 – Melrose Avenue

Melrose Shopping

Description:

When you think walkable shopping you think Melrose Ave! This is probably one of the most walkable and well-known shopping places in all of Los Angeles.

Near Fairfax and the Mid City area of LA, this super famous street is for you to stroll, shop and snack.

There is so much energy and vibrancy when you are walking and window shopping on Melrose. As you shop you have plenty of options for stopping somewhere to eat or drink, refueling and continuing on your shopping mission.

On Melrose, you can also find lots of stores that will help you furnish or redecorate your home or maybe spoil yourself with that new luxury handbag you’ve had your eye on for awhile.

Do you love urban art like murals? Melrose is for sure the place for you! As you walk around doing your shopping you will come across dozens and dozens of incredible murals.

One of our favorite areas for murals in this little alley right next to Sporties.

In that alley, you will find 1/2 dozen murals including a few amazing tributes to Laker legend Kobe Bryant.

5 – Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills Shopping

Description:

Get picture ready and go shopping luxury style.  Beverly Hills, with its unique boutiques, high-end stores, fine restaurants, and beautiful streets, make it one of the most walkable shopping neighborhoods in the city.

Take your friends and have some fun walking around the world-famous Rodeo Drive,  and its two-mile-long streets full of eye-catching beauty.

While you are there make sure to check out The Rodeo Collection. This magnificent two-story outdoor plaza will satisfy your desire to experience opulent style.

And don’t forget to stop at one of the open-air cafes at the end of your stroll.

hack:

The most famous and glamorous shopping area is of course Rodeo Drive and the streets next to it. But if you want a little less expensive options to eat and still be in the glamour of Beverly Hills go a few blocks South.

On South Beverly, there are more casual places you can eat that won’t break the bank. The divider between North Beverly Drive (right next to Rodeo shopping) and South Beverly Drive (where it’s slightly more casual) is Wilshire Ave.
