August 2024 Events in Los Angeles You Don’t Want to Miss

Los Angeles isn’t slowing down this summer, and August is shaping up to be another scorcher – but with a calendar full of events to keep things exciting. 

As always, we bring you all the entertainment and events news.  For the month of August you can find exhilarating music events, fun family outings, cultural and delicious food fests, and so much more.

1 –  HARD Summer

HARD Summer heats Up Hollywood Park, so get ready for a bass-pumping weekend.  Calling all music enthusiasts, dance fiends, and festival fanatics! HARD Summer is back for its 2024 edition, bringing two days of nonstop beats to the brand new Hollywood Park venue in Inglewood on August 3rd and 4th.

This year marks a historic shift for HARD Summer. Moving from its previous location, the festival will take over the sprawling grounds of Hollywood Park adjacent to SoFi Stadium, offering ample space to move, groove, and explore.

Expect interactive features, innovative activations, and an overall immersive experience that will elevate HARD Summer to a whole new level.

The lineup this year features a diverse mix of electronic music royalty and rising stars. From the iconic sounds of Rezz and deadmau5 to the hard-hitting bass of Subtronics.  Your general admission tickets include food and drink options plus bar access.

2 – Friday Nights Wine Tastings

Description:

Barnsdall Art Park Foundation presents: Friday Night Wine Tastings! This extremely popular outdoor wine tasting event returned this Summer and will still be going strong in the month of August from 5:30 to 9 pm. 

Head to the iconic Barnsdall Art Park on the west lawn of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House for an evening of wine, art, and community.

You can expect a sunset flight curated by Silverlake Wine, plus a rotation of local food trucks, DJs and, of course, the best views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory you can find almost anywhere.

This event is a fundraiser for the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation, so you can feel good while you indulge. Enjoy a date night while sipping a favorite wine or discover new flavors, take your group of friends with you and have a great time. 

Please remember to leave your babies home, as this gathering is for 21+ only.

3 – Hot Wheels Monster Truck Glow Party – Toyota Arena

Get Glowing with Monster Trucks! Hot Wheels Live Takes Over Ontario this August 31st promising a night of dazzling pyrotechnics, edge-of-your-seat stunts, and glow-in-the-dark thrills.  

Witness your favorite Hot Wheels Monster Trucks, like Mega Wrex™, Tiger Shark™, Bone Shaker™, and the brand new HW 5-Alarm™ firetruck hero, illuminate the night as they crush cars, perform gravity-defying jumps, and battle it out for monster truck supremacy.

4 – D23 The Ultimate Disney Fan Event

Description:

This year, the magic descends upon Anaheim, promising an unforgettable and magical experience for fans of all ages with the return of D23.  On August 8th Both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park will welcome ticketed D23 fans from rope drop to late night, featuring unique offerings for fans, including a custom cavalcade, an energetic dance party, and special photo opps.  Also Disney Jr. will be joining the festivities with a music filled program at California Adventure.

For this years edition of D23 you should prepare for something truly magical.  On Friday August 9th and for the very first time, the Honda Center will be home to three nights of marquee showcases; Disney Entertainment, Disney Experiences, and Disney Legends.  These programs feature  bigger shows with more magic to the biggest audience of Disney fans in the world.

Another great highlight is The Disney Special Ceremony, honoring several figures who have made a significant impact on the Disney legacy.  This special ceremony will also take place at the Honda Center, and Ryan Seacrest will be the host.

But that’s not all, Disney fans will have the opportunity to enter FANtastic Prizes, a spectacular lineup of exclusive prizes and engaging experiences that only Disney can deliver! One of the spectacular prizes includes a sailing on the seven-night maiden voyage of the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Treasure.

5 – Japanese Festivals in Los Angeles

Nisei Week 2024

Description:

Calling all Japanese culture enthusiasts to celebrate Japan in Los Angels this month of August.  There are several celebrations, events and festivals happening this month in Los Angeles, and all guests and visitors can enjoy a wide variety of Japanese cultural experiences, food, music, and artistic crafts.  We got them all here for you!

Santa Clarita residents and visitors can indulge in Celebrate Japan Fest.  This event is one of the wonderful Celebrate series presented by the city of Santa Clarita, and it features a journey through the Land of The Rising Sun, on Friday August 9th from 6 – 9 p.m.  This free event is for everyone and it also includes your free Celebrate other Cultures Passport, and raffles with registration.

Explore Nisei Week this month of August! Nisei week is a Los Angeles staple holding the title of one of the longest-running ethnic festivals in our country.  “Nisei” refers to second-generation Japanese Americans, and the festival honors their heritage while showcasing the vibrant Japanese culture that thrives in LA.  One of the big highlights is the Grand Parade on August 11th, which begins at Central, heads west down 2nd St., north on San Pedro, and east on 1st St. 

The heart of the fest is Little Tokyo, so plan a visit to the plaza festival on August 17th and enjoy fun activities, delicious food, treats, and exhibits including bonsai and calligraphy artistic works.

Last but not least, the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is hosting its annual Natsumatsuri Family Festival on Saturday, August 10th, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  This all day family friendly and free event features artistic crafts and origami, interactive storytelling, scavenger hunt, dancing, and free all day admission to the museum’s exhibits.  Have fun everyone.

6 – Best BBQ events in Los Angeles this month

BBQ Music Fest 2024

Description:

A common question we get from our fellow Angelenos is where to go for a good BBQ? Well this month there are some awesome events happening where you’ll have the chance to try some good LA BBQ with new and unique flavors.

First we start with the Old West BBQ and Chili Cook Off in San Pedro.  This event is for all ages and it’s on Sunday August 4th in Downtown San Pedro.  Expect entertainment, music, free chili sampling, BBQ dinner including grilled meats, veggies, potato salad, BBQ beans and other delicious treats.  Get tickets on their website. 

Mark your calendars for the BBQ Music Fest, taking place from Friday, August 16th to Sunday, August 18th, at the spacious Huntington Beach Sports Complex. This three-day extravaganza is a mecca for all things BBQ and music for the Southern California region. 

This event claims to be the best BBQ Cook off in SOCAL, so you better get over there and tame your craving for BBQ ribs.  Witness the BBQ battle, pitmasters vs. locals, where culinary masters go head-to-head, vying for the coveted title of “Best BBQ Ribs.”

Sample their creations, savor the smoky goodness, and cast your vote for your favorite pitmaster.
