August 2021 Events in Los Angeles You Don’t Want to Miss

It’s the month of August we are deep into the Summer and life is looking good with all the fun things to do and outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy in LA.

We seem to be going back and forth with infection rates so as always remember to stay safe and follow all the local health guidelines.

Assuming none of this stuff gets canceled you can plan a summer of jam packed fun with our list of big events happening in Los Angeles for August 2021.

We have some of the big hit cant miss happenings you want to attend this summer including concerts, live performances, inter-dimensional adventures, music and food festivals and more.

 


1 – Big Concerts

Description:

Lets get ready to go out and enjoy concerts again! Concerts are finally starting make a comeback with some of the best being the outdoor ones.  Here are some big outdoor concerts coming up for August 2021 so choose your favorites and grab your tickets fast.

One of the most famous bands ever to come out of Los Angeles is Guns N’ Roses, and that massive show is coming up on Thursday, August 19th at 6:00 pm at Banc of California Stadium.   Keep in mind that parking opens at 4:30 pm. and doors open at 5:00 pm.

Another band that people are super excited to see come back to perform in Los Angeles is the Black Crowes.  The Southern soul-rock band will perform August 19th at The Forum.

And the popular band straight out of East LA, Los Lobos will be performing at the beautiful Greek Theater.  That show is scheduled at 6:00 pm on August 21st, doors open at 4:45 PM.

2 – Over the Top Popups

Description:

Do you love Popups?  They have taken over Los Angeles over the past 5 years or so but were mostly put to a screeching halt with the disasters of 2020. But now they are starting to make a come back and they are going next level!

One of the most over the top we have experienced is the unexpected events in unique spots, like DiscOasis at the South Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes.

This is a one of a kind disco party, with music and dancefloor, food, drinks, fabulous lights and a gorgeous roller skating.  This whole party is taking place hidden in the beauty of this botanical garden making it a true spectacle of joy, beauty and fun.  Members of the South Botanic Garden will get a $5 discount.  This Popup runs all through August and ends in September.

Another unique pop up you can experience in August is the Madcap Motel. Get lost in the 1960s in Elsewhere, an immersive world of an inter-dimensional adventure at the Madcap Motel in the Arts District.  This super cool experience welcomes visitors of all ages.  You will explore hidden passages and uncover hidden rooms.   You can enjoy this popup until August 29th.

3 – Theatre 

Description:

This August get out to the theatre again to enjoy amazing plays and we know this is something we are really looking forward to.  You may have seen it on television but you have to go see Hamilton in person as it makes it return to the beautiful Pantages theater in Hollywood.

Hamilton is one of the most well received and renowned modern plays and for good reason as the extremely talented cast tells the story of America’s founding father Alexander Hamilton in the most unique and creative ways.  The performances will begin August 17th, and tickets start at $55.

Another great show is The Lion King, also at the Pantages in Hollywood.  This is a Disney’s award winning musical show, following the young cub Simba’s intense story.  Although you have likely already seen the movie many times,  its a whole different experience taking in the colorful displays and talented cast radiating all their passion and energy.

Also in August (from July to September) you can experience one of the most unique performances you will ever see, the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach.  During the ninety minute show you will be mesmerized by incredible recreations of classic works of art with real live people posing as the narrator guides you through the stories. Tickets ranging from $45 to $250 can be purchased online.

4 – KCRW Summer Nights

Description:

Free outdoor concerts will be happening all summer long hosted by KCRW and taking place at some of the most iconic local spots including Descanso Gardens, One Colorado in Pasadena, the California African Museum and California Plaza.

If you want to enjoy some live music and good times in the beautiful open air make sure to check out the concerts at the Colorado courtyard in Pasadena.  August 14th is jazz time with pianist James Francies and DJ LeRoy Dawns.  On August 21st you can enjoy Brooklyn’s indie pop band Nation Language.

What about live music in the beautiful surroundings? Save the date also and head towards Descanso Gardens on September 3rd and dance at the beats of DJs Raul Campos and Anthony Valadez.

Parking and admission is free, party starts at 6:00 pm.

5 – Foodie Events

Description:

Al fresco is better! Looking for outdoor fun experiences to keep your mind and body happy? Foodie outdoor events are a great choice and there are plenty in August.  You will find yummy treats while you get to socialize outdoor with friends.

Smorgasburg is a very large open air food market open every Sunday and it’s got all kinds of food for just about every taste. You can find vegan dishes, seafood, ribs, arepas, tamales, tacos, pizza, desserts, coffee, green juices and some of the most inventive and up and coming chefs in the city.

You can also go shopping for unique jewelry items and clothing.  Get there early because its one of the most popular foodie activities in the city. You can find it at the ROW DTLA and it opens at 10 am. every Sunday.

Foodie Land Night Market at the Rose Bowl is another great spot to have some fun grabbing one or multiple bites, with good company.  This is a summer street food festival, so expect authentic multicultural street foods, and also DJs.  You can also shop items made by local artisans.

La Plaza de Cultura y Artes in LA presents the annual Cuban – American Music Festival.  It is on Sunday August 29 and it starts at noon.  This event features musical acts, dancing, delicious Cuban food, games and also drinks and cigar lounge.   To purchase tickets go to cubanamericanmusicfestival.com
