Our glamorous city of Angels is known internationally for Hollywood extravaganza and glitz, But what most outsiders don’t know is that it also gives its residents access to many spectacular cultural and entertainment venues and events completely free of charge.

Moreover, the city’s vibrant art scene offers numerous art galleries that hold free exhibitions showcasing local and international talents, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in creativity without any cost.

In this article we have listed for you some of the most beautiful, fun, cultural, and entertaining venues and events you, your family and friends can visit and enjoy for free.


1 – LA Best Museums are Free

One of the greatest things to do in LA for free is to visit our world-class museums.  Some of our favorites include The BroadThis fantastic DTLA museum is home to a collection of over 2,000 works of art by artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, and Cindy Sherman. The museum’s collection is known for its boldness and its focus on popular culture.  Its free to visit with a pre-registration online. 

Our next recommendation is The Getty Center. Entrance to explore the Getty Center is completely free! (although you will need to pay for onsite parking) This architectural masterpiece offers not only world-class art collections but also breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Delight in the stunning modernist architecture, beautifully manicured gardens, and the impressive collection of art, ranging from ancient manuscripts to contemporary masterpieces.  Have fun taking memorable pictures of the Getty grounds.

Also be sure to visit the Hammer Museum.  This hidden and underrated gem in the heart of the city is a true treasure trove of contemporary art and culture. From thought-provoking exhibitions to engaging public programs, the Hammer Museum offers a unique space for artistic exploration. You can visit the museum every day except Mondays.  Bring your friends and explore the works at this fantastic LA museum.

The city also offers terrific specials for Museums that charge. Once a month many museums provide free admissions including LACMA Museum.  Also the La Brea Tar Pits and the Natural History Museum offer free admission to LA residents every day from 3 pm to 5 pm.

2 – The Griffith Observatory

Description:

The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles is a true gem, offering visitors a chance to explore the universe, learn about astronomy, and enjoy stunning views of the city—all without spending a dime.    Some special events do have a fee, so make sure to visit during regular public hours to maximize your free experience.  

As you arrive, take in the beautiful landscape of the venue itself.  The observatory’s vantage point offers panoramic vistas of the city, making it an excellent spot for photographers and nature lovers alike. 

Once inside, you’ll find a range of exhibits and displays that explore the wonders of the cosmos. From the Foucault Pendulum that demonstrates Earth’s rotation to the Tesla Coil, there’s no shortage of captivating displays that are both educational and entertaining.

One of the highlights of the Griffith Observatory is its array of telescopes. Visitors have access to the Zeiss refracting telescope, which allows for stunning views of the moon, planets, and distant stars. 3 – Exposition Park

California Science Center

Description:

This is one of our most recommended places for visitors and locals who are looking for a day of fun, educational entertainment and free of charge! Exposition Park is a Los Angeles cultural destination like no other and it’s a great option for families as it offers activities for all ages.

Take your younger adventurers and explore The California Science Center’s  interactive science exhibits, including the Space Shuttle Endeavour. The Science Center offers permanent free admission to its regular galleries.

Wander through the beautiful Exposition Park Rose Garden, featuring a stunning collection of over 200 varieties of roses. It’s a perfect spot for a peaceful stroll, a picnic, and Instagram-worthy photos.

You cant leave the park without visiting The Natural History Museum which offers free admission to LA residents every day from 3 to 5 pm.  Discover fascinating exhibits on dinosaurs, gemstones, and the natural history of the region. They also offer Free admission on the first Tuesday of every month.

But there is even more at this spectacular destination! Exposition Park offers plenty of outdoor spaces and activities as well including the Park Lake, and Park Skate Plaza.  Also keep an eye out for public art installations and sculptures scattered throughout the park.

4 – The Hollywood Bowl

The Hollywood Bowl is without a doubt one of the most spectacular gems for the city of Los Angeles. But many people dont realize that it holds many freebie secrets! Leading up to their main performances, many of the artists who grace the Bowl’s stage conduct rehearsals that are open to the public. It’s a fantastic opportunity to listen to world-class musicians, orchestras, and even the Los Angeles Philharmonic practice their pieces. The atmosphere is relaxed, and you can bring your own picnic to enjoy while soaking in the music. Check the Hollywood Bowl’s official website or their social media channels for information on upcoming rehearsal dates and artists.

The Hollywood Bowl Museum and the surrounding grounds are open to the public, free of charge. The museum offers exhibits detailing the Bowl’s history and showcasing memorabilia from its rich past. It’s a great way to explore the venue’s heritage.

The grounds of the Hollywood Bowl are also free to visit. You can take a leisurely stroll, enjoy a picnic at one of the many public tables, and soak in the panoramic views of the city. 5 – Live Show Tapings

Dancing with the Stars

Description:

Mega popular TV shows including Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Dancing with the Stars, Family Feud, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Conan, and The Price is Right, are some of the many shows that are taped in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles, and you can get tickets for free!

Attending a live show taping is one of the best fun and free things to do in LA.  You’ll get to see your favorite shows being made live, and you may even get to see some celebrities up close! 

Once you have tickets to a taping, be sure to arrive early. Audience members are usually required to be in their seats at least 30 minutes before the taping begins. There may also be a dress code, so be sure to check the show’s website for details.

But how to get tickets?  Simply sign up for audience services websites such as On-Camera Audiences and 1iota. You can also follow the shows you’re interested in on social media, as they often announce ticket giveaways and other promotions.  Enjoy the show!
